Data Source Management
This section covers organization and maintenance operations for data sources already added in Port. The data source itself (host, credentials, etc.) is changed through the Edit pages; this section covers folder organization, duplication and deletion.
Operations
| Operation | Purpose | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Move a data source or sub-folder to a different folder | Move Data Source |
| Duplicate | Recreate an existing data source with the same settings | Duplicate Data Source |
| Delete | Remove an unused data source | Delete Data Source |
When to Use Which
| Situation | Suggested Operation |
|---|---|
| Reorganizing folder structure | Move |
| Need a second connection to the same DB/server with a different name | Duplicate + rename |
| Cleaning up an unused test source | Delete |
| Connection details (host, password) changed | Edit — not this section |
In Use items cannot be deleted
If a data source is referenced by any Compass records (In Use), deletion is fully blocked — there is no confirmation dialog to override it. To delete the data source, you must first delete every Compass record that uses it (or reroute them to another source); the data source then becomes Not in Use and can be deleted.
