Move Widget / Folder

This page explains moving a widget or folder in the Cartography module to a different folder via the Move action. Moving is used to organize widgets by plant, line, system, or project.

Prerequisite

At least one widget or folder must exist in the Cartography list.

Cartography — Overview

1. Find the Item in the Cartography List

Click Cartography in the left menu. Find the widget or folder you want to move in the list.

2. Open the More Menu

Click the More (three dots) button on the right side of the widget card. Click Move in the menu.

More menu — Move option

Tip

The same More → Move flow applies to folders.

3. Select the Target Folder

The "'' where to move?" dialog opens. The full Cartography folder tree is displayed.

Action Description
Click a folder Expand / collapse the folder
Click a folder name Select that folder as the destination and start the move
Root Directory To move the widget to the root directory

4. Move Completes

After the destination folder is selected, the move happens immediately. There is no confirmation dialog.

Success

On a successful move the widget appears immediately in the destination folder. The Cartography list is refreshed.

5. Folder Move

Folders can be moved like widgets. When a folder is moved, all widgets and subfolders inside move with it.

Depth Limit

There is a maximum depth limit enforced by the database in the Cartography folder structure. If the limit is exceeded an error appears:

move operation failed (depth limit may have been exceeded)

In that case, move the destination folder higher up.

6. Dashboard Impact

Dashboards Are Not Affected

Moving a widget only changes its location in the Cartography list. All Horizon and Atlas dashboards using this widget keep working; the widget link is by ID, not folder path.
