2. Chart Type Selection — Circular
In the second step, you select one of the 3 chart types in the Circular group: Pie Series, Doughnut Series, or Radial Bar Series.
Wizard route: /cartography/add/selectchart
1. Review the Type List
The 3 chart types of the Circular group are listed in the left column.
2. Circular Types
| Chart Type | Typical Use | Additional Fields in Step 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Pie Series | Slice shares within a total | Explode, Start Angle, End Angle, Stroke |
| Doughnut Series | Pie + KPI value / title in center | Pie fields + Inner Radius |
| Radial Bar Series | Multi-category target progress | Radius, Inner Radius, Corner Style, Track Opacity, Gap |
3. Type Selection Guide
| Scenario | Recommended Type |
|---|---|
| Simple share analysis with 3-6 categories | Pie |
| Share + total KPI value in center (e.g., "Total: 1,245") | Doughnut |
| Multiple target races / progress percentage | Radial Bar |
| 7+ categories | Pie becomes hard to read — Bar Series or Stacked Column 100 as alternative |
Pie vs Bar
With more than 6 categories, Pie slices get too small. Use Cartesian → Bar Series instead.
4. Confirm the Type
When a card is selected, it is highlighted with a bold green border and the Lottie animation on the right starts.
Click the Next button at the top right.
Proceeding Without Selecting a Type
If no type is selected, Next gives a warning: "Please select a chart type first".
Step 6 Will Be Skipped
Whichever type you select in the Circular group, Step 6 Add Series is skipped. A single dataset is used; there is no multiple series.
