Delete Widget / Folder
This page explains removing a widget or folder from the Cartography list via the Delete action. Deletion cannot be undone; it is important to check dependencies before deleting.
Irreversible Operation
When the deletion is confirmed the widget is removed from the database. If you want to reuse the same settings, duplicate it first or note the settings.
1. Find the Widget
Click Cartography in the left menu. Find the widget or folder you want to delete in the list.
2. Dependency Check
The widget card shows the usage status:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| In Use | Used in at least one Horizon or Atlas dashboard |
| Not in Use | Not used in any dashboard |
Deleting an In-Use Widget
If an In Use widget is deleted, all dashboards using it show a placeholder or error card. Before deleting, remove the widget from dashboards or pick a replacement widget.
3. More Menu → Delete
Click the More button on the right side of the widget card and click Delete.
4. Confirmation Dialog
The delete action is confirmed in the dialog that opens.
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| Cancel | Dialog closes, widget is preserved |
| Delete | Widget is removed |
Success
On a successful delete the list updates immediately.
5. Folder Deletion
Before deleting a folder, ensure the folder is empty. If a folder contains widgets or subfolders, deletion may be blocked or dependent content may also be deleted (version-dependent behavior).
Folder Contents
Before deleting a non-empty folder, move the widgets inside to other folders → Move.
6. Dashboard Impact
A deleted widget causes the following:
| Location | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Horizon board | A "Widget not found" placeholder appears in its place |
| Atlas dashboard | Same placeholder appears |
| Public link / embed | Same placeholder; impact is immediate for external viewers |
| Compass record | Not affected — the record is independent |
| Data source | Not affected |
7. Common Errors
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Delete button disabled | The widget is protected by a backend rule | Remove the widget from dashboards first |
| Empty space in dashboard after deletion | The widget really was removed | Add a new widget in those places |
| Folder will not delete | The folder is not empty | Move the items inside first |
